West Lynn Primary School

Pupils look bright at West Lynn

There was a colourful end to the school week when our pupils marked World Mental Health Day and the ‘Hello Yellow’ campaign with their brightest outfits.

All year groups at West Lynn Primary took part in the annual event, dressing in sunny shades to raise money for mental health charity Young Minds, while members of staff also donned their most vivid attire.

Dan Ryan is Assistant Headteacher at our school, which is a member of the West Norfolk Academies Trust.

“On the 9th October we celebrated Hello Yellow, where we asked the children to dress in yellow or bright colours to raise awareness,” he said. “All staff were encouraged to wear yellow along with the children.

“We held an assembly and completed some mental health-related activities in class.

“We also shared the QR code via the school website and our newsletter to give people the opportunity to donate to the charity Young Minds.”

We participate in the fundraiser every year, typically raising up to £200 for the cause.

Mr Ryan added: “Events like this are extremely important for raising awareness. We use events like this to support work we do in school alongside our PSHE [Personal, Social, Health, and Economic] curriculum.

“Supporting children and their mental health is at the forefront of what we do.”

Other Trust members taking part in the initiative included Smithdon High School in Hunstanton, St Clement’s High School in Terrington St Clement, and Clenchwarton Primary.
